In this presentation, Melodie talked about the recent situation of foster and adopted children in Japan, showing what kinds of intellectual and other challenges these children tend to face, explained how these challenges manifest themselves in classroom settings, and gave practical advice for teachers working with such children.

Dr. Melodie Cook has been teaching at the university level in Japan since 1993. Her research interests include high-stakes testing, expatriate family experiences with schooling in Japan, and teacher education. She is a parent of one adopted and one foster child and writes a column for Savvy Tokyo about her experiences there.
