AKITA – December 2014 – Let’s Examine Ondoku-based Learning Strategies from Various Perspectives – Yo Hamada, Akita University. This workshop focused on learning strategies for listening and communication from three different perspectives, as a teacher, as a learner, and as a researcher. The presenter’s university developed a unique English language learning environment, called ALL (Autonomous Language Learning) ROOMs, in which teachers instruct student staff members in SLA and learning strategies, the staff then assist students’ English learning. The presenter described the learning strategies and considered their effectiveness by examining them from a teacher’s perspective, a learners’ perspective, and a researcher’s perspective. Specifically, the presenter introduced various types of “Ondoku” based activities including shadowing, repeating, and dictation. The presenter introduced the activities academically and practically, and the participants engaged in these various activities to understand them better.
