Michael Landry (Akita International University)

Bio
Greetings. I am from Nova Scotia, Canada, and I have been involved in English language teaching and learning since 2001. I started my career teaching in South Korea and China. In 2005, I moved to Kanto and worked in the private language school sector as an English teacher, assistant director of studies, and director of studies before returning to Canada in December 2011. During my time in Canada, I taught English at the post-secondary level. During that time, earned my Master’s in TESOL (Aston University) and PhD in Interdisciplinary (TEESOL) Studies (University of British Columbia). In September 2025, I returned to Japan and currently work at Akita International University (AIU) as an assistant professor in the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program.
Though new to Akita JALT, I have attended JALT conferences in the past and served on the executive of TESL Nova Scotia. I have also served on conference/event planning committees at the national and international levels. Through this service and my time as a podcast host (Teacher Talking Time Podcast), I have developed a broad network of professional relationships in various areas of our field. I am very much looking forward to seeing how these experiences can help to enrich program offerings at Akita JALT.
I thank you all in advance for your engagement and enthusiasm. I am committed to creating a strong network of practice here at Akita JALT, so if you ever have suggestions for how to enhance PD offerings, please reach out.
