Yamasaki Aya – The effectiveness of integrating ICT and practical learning methods in technical college students’ learning motivation

However, most non-English majors at university generally lack confidence in learning English because of their English proficiency levels and are uncertain about their learning progress and how to study English effectively, which can lead to demotivation in learning the target language (Tsumura, 2010). Therefore, teachers must establish a learning environment where they can study individually outside class. Mikulecky (2011) argues that instruction in specific learning techniques like scanning and speed reading can facilitate their language learning. These learning methods can be adapted for students’ self-study outside class. Learning management systems and language learning apps are also helpful for following students’ learning progress and for enhancing their awareness of the areas they need to focus on in studying English. Given the benefits of both ICT and practical learning methods in a class, combining them can increase students’ motivation and autonomy as learners. This presentation discusses positive influences on students’ learning motivation and the effectiveness of combining ICT and teaching-specific learning methods at a technical college based on the result of students’ language proficiency tests and an in-class post-survey. キーワード:TOEICCALL / MALL,自立学習 Date: Saturday October 21, 2023 Starting at 2 pm Online event (Zoom – Akita JALT members with be sent a Zoom link for the presentation) All others who would like to join can send an email to: akita@jalt.org and the zoom link will be given.
